I apologize for not keeping my blog up to date over the past few months. Time sure has flown by! Yikes. Over the next few weeks I am going to attempt to get everyone up to speed with the goings-on over here.

This evening a friend and I walked around near where I live to try and find some kitchen chairs for her. There is a resale store around the corner from my house, so we decided to go there. She was not successful in finding chairs, but I was able to find a wooden freestanding coat rack! Ever since seeing Mary Poppins I've always wanted a freestanding coat rack. To top it all off, I don't know where the Japanese hang their jackets – maybe they hang them in their clothes closets in their bedrooms? – And I have not been able to find one in any stores… Except tonight! Originally it was ¥12,000, which is about $100 - $110-ish. Well, one of the pegs was broken all the way through, so I asked if they would take any money off since it was broken. Needless to say, I got a much better deal. Here is my coat rack in its new home: After finding that and bringing it back to my house, we went to a restaurant also just around the block. Now, hamburgers in Japan are very different then American hamburgers. Normally it's not all cow meat… It's other meat as well mixed in. Needless to say they're "different." However, I found an amazing mushroom & cheese burger and awesome strawberry cola! I hope everybody has an amazing Thanksgiving today! This year I have a lot to be thankful to God for: my amazing friends and family, the opportunities this great new job has afforded me, and my health. I am so very thankful, even when I am bogged down with "first world problems." I just hope that I can continue to grow as a Christian over the next year and continue to always be thankful. "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:18 I know that I had a great day hanging out with friends and eating a tremendous Thanksgiving buffet. And technically, I did not have Thanksgiving in Japan… I had it in the United States. Can't believe I traveled all of this way and I still had Thanksgiving in the States. Oh well, maybe next year. 😜 Some shots of the crew on the way to Tokyo. Some of my food. The small plate had duck, veal, salmon, and pork (and carrots). Highly recommend The New Sanno for their Thanksgiving buffet! The train was a tad crowded on the way home. Also, the dog is Hachi - the famous dog who waited for his owner everyday after work, even when the man died. Here's the busiest crossing in the world. It's outside of Shibuya Station. And here's Shibuya Crossing from the 2nd story Starbucks. This evening after riding the train home a few of us stopped for Chinese. I couldn't finish the hot & sour soup, but the spring rolls were phenomenal!
This past weekend I had the pleasure to travel to Gran Deco Resort. The folks I traveled with are all a part of a Christian youth organization. All I have to say is wow. Definitely recommend Gran Deco if you want to get away for the weekend - summer or winter. Gran Deco is definitely known for its skiing and snowboarding, but there's also a lot to do during the rest of the year: hiking, camping, canoeing, kayaking... it has it all. Here are some pictures that I took with my phone of our phenomenal multiple course meals. Friday's Dinner: Saturday's Lunch: Saturday's Dinner: When people leave the resort, the staff waves goodbye. However, they don't just wave when you just leave, they run after you and wave again! It's been a fun past week... I traveled on the train by myself & didn't get lost, I got shanghaied from work to go to a park, and I bought a car. Fun times. First, the car. I bought it last Wednesday from a colleague. It's a silver 2001 Honda Fit. It was a tad dirty, so it had to go get detailed before I posted pictures. It seats 5 (the back seat is down for me to transport my unaccompanied baggage coming tomorrow). This past Sunday I decided to come in to school for a few hours in order to get some work done. A colleague of mine texted me to see what I was doing, and when she found out that I was at school working, she and another colleague promptly drove over to the school and started pounding on my door. They wouldn't let up until I let them in, and when I did, they said that I had to come with them. Sundays are not for work, they said. So I grabbed some papers to grade and went with them to Showa Park. We went to a tearoom at the park, and walked around. Afterwards, another colleague made us ribs and an awesome salad. This past Saturday I traveled down to Tokyo to participate in Scott Kelby's World Wide Photowalk. I think there were about 1,000 photowalks around the world. The one that I participated in started at Tokyo Station and went for a few blocks. I met a few awesome people - Ken & Lori - and I'm looking forward to maintaining contact with them! I wasn't able to take any post-worthy pictures, but it was a fun experience.
